future conversation when i'm rich and famous:
interviewer for chic mag: "Sarah, when was it that you truly discovered how cool and funny you were/are?"
$arah (a.k.a. Sarah): "well, it all started when i had my exchange student jane open my eyes in my sophomore year of high school..."
i've been contemplating a few things lately, and i've come to the conclusion that exchange is a the answer to my prayers. i'm thinking i could get away for a few weeks in early january/february. i'm still working on finalizing this plan with ma mere, but so far it's lookin' gooood.
in other news, i've been looking ahead to halloween. i'm thinking that all our friends should have a MASSIVE party and be cool and awesome. i'm thinking we should make it like a "costume ball." and have masks and hardcore costumes. we can even bob for apples!!! my point is that halloween should rock.
p.s. school sucks. and why am i such a lazy bum when it comes to school work this year? i must investigate.
countdown to major candy vegging night (commonly called halloween): 35 days

mission: drums
for awhile now i've noticed that my life is not complete. at first i didn't know what could fill this void, but i've discovered the solution to my problem- playing the drums. ever since my brother decided to randomly buy a used drumset, i've been feeling the need to do something musical. i used to think that i just wanted to do this because i idolize trey and that i was just on some drum kick that i'd soon get out of. however, i've been looking into drumming for awhile, and i'm thinkin' its time. my mission- buy a drumset. problem- i have no money. that is why i've hatched the most wonderful plan ever. my plan is to have a massive garage sale and use the profits to fund my new obsession that is drums. anyone interested in helping me is welcome to donate anything, volunteer their time, or give me money.
the book of short stories that i'm reading right now called the "hotel eden" is very....different. the first story i read was about how this meteorologist and his long-time girlfriend moved to england, met this guy who took them to this bar and told them stories, then the guy takes the meteorologist to scotland, leaves him on the train and runs away with the meteorologists' wife. then the meteorologist meets them at the bar that night. the second story is about this popular girl and her dorky lab partner who go to thrift stores, buy bowling balls, place them at their friends' doors, go to a hospital and pretend to be sick then run out screaming and laughing, then have sex in his truck. then at the end of the year they say goodbye to each other by meeting at the airport and making out even though they're not getting on the planes. i still have to read one about a girl's "sexual awakening." should i be nervous?

stay in school. if you're suicidal, that is.
okay, first day of school- i had not finished summer reading, had ALREADY gone to bed late and had not finished preparing/decorating all of my binders
by the second week, it was a little better. i somewhat finished my summer reading and was on a pretty good schedule where i would do all my homework.
this week- everything goes to hell. i am already going to bed past midnight, waking up at 5 AND not even finishing all my homework. for instance, last night i had to finish reading the 2 chapters for history that i was being tested on, finish reading Beowulf, do precalculus homework, and browse websites and read articles for religion. needless to say, i didn't get it all done even though i stayed up until 1, woke up at 5:30 and got to school at 7:15 and did more work. it's a little crazy.
in other news, jonathan and i have been going out for 8 months. cody and elizabeth are going to ring dance together. i'm going on retreat. mr. brandao and i have the same car; date pending for our race.
this year, unlike other years, i am not in the least looking forward to the upcoming school year. my decorated binders don't give me the same thrill; i countdown the minutes until lunch and the end of the day. and i live for the weekends. i think that as a country we should revert to farming communities, because they didn't have to go to school. OR, we could convert to a system of teaching/testing where there were no formal tests and grades. i would like that.
i am also seriously considering dropping out of school to race volvos professionally. i've also got a lot of connections in the supermarket business... stephen, cody, colin, caroline.... i figure i could carve a nice salary out of those two businesses.

end-of-summer blues
if you know me at all, then you already are aware of the immense joy i recieve from book day, decorating, organizing, and basically being obsessive compulsive. however, this year it is different, while the start of school looms closer and closer, i am not yet ready to partake in the annual obtaining and making-pretty-ing of my school supplies. i do not want summer to be over. i have enjoyed my summer immensely. i have traveled a lot; i have gone to such exotic destinations as florida, new york, georgia and mexico.
i've also had a lot more freedom than usual this summer. i can now drive, and my car has been good to me. it has won me many a race, and i am grateful for that!
alas, school is getting closer and closer. i fear that my binders may not be decorated to the fullest extent; that my uniform will not be layed out; that my bookpack will not be ready and waiting. what has gotten into me, some might ask... i think i let too much of the summer lovin' get to me. i must remind myself that i am ocd, and i like it.
i promise that i will say this mantra to myself: i am sarah, an obsessive person who likes to be organized, color-coordinated, and have everything done on time.
well, it's a start...

my natural "whatamalaness" is coming through
so, yeah i've sucked about the blogging thing lately. sorry. if anyone's life depends on my bi-weekly posts, though, they should seek help from a professional. or just worship me, whatever's easiest.
Quick Rundown of the Mission Trip (for the full details, see my memoirs...)
Friday, July 16- the buss was late, therefore we didn't leave until 8 pm. the bus ride was exciting and "different" and also happened to be 22 hours non-stop. woot!
Saturday, July 17- the bus ride continues, however many fun stops are made. one at 4 am. one at 8 am for a nice breakfast at the golden arches. one at around noon when we had already crossed the border, and yet another bathroom stop. then we finally reached arteaga, mexico. it was about 6 pm. we had dinner, found our dormitories, showered...
Sunday, July 18- early wakeup for breakfast due to the moving-about of the "elders" as we nicknamed the older folks in the group. mass (in spanish) in this GORGEOUS church next to the place we stayed. touring of cities near where we were staying. a marketplace "fiesta" with lots of food we couldn't eat, drinks we couldn't have, stuff we couldn't bring across the border, and pinyatas (one of which i purchased). what? i'm not a tourist?!?
Monday, July 19- first work day. good stuff that slow-moving tedious manual labor in the sun. lots of children ready to help in return for my sunglasses. i mostly straightened wires for re-bar. back to the mission compound for lunch. what?? beans, rice and tortillias, how do they ALWAYS know what i want?? some people got montezuma's revenge later on this night. BEEEWWWWAAARRREEE!!!!! the bathroom therefore was rank the next few days. (too much information? deal with it, i had to.)
Tuesday, July 20- the teens have started hanging out a lot more and nightly games of "sugar packets," a less-common form of Spoons, is a new favorite in addition to Mau (a seven-card game played like UNO where you can't tell people the rules; they must figure it out for themselves....aka "a bucket o' fun"). second work day. today i worked mainly on the trench we were building with shovels, pickaxes, mallets, and picks. i became "steam-shovel Sarah." ohhh yeah, i'm cool. this little girl from the village took me to her house and offered me watermelon. it was a lot more awesome than it sounds...the girls teens decided to sleep on the balcony under the stars. that ROCKED!
Wednesday, July 21- last work day. more digging... steam-shovel sarah showed her true colors. we stopped early to have mass and say goodbye to the people we had connected with. this girl Carla braided my hair during mass. hugging, some tears... not from me though. i hadn't really gotten to know the kids that well.... oops. fr. mario (from mexico) arranged kids to dance for us after dinner (their dancing is kind of like tap in that their shoes make the noise that they dance to). the watermelon girl returned to hang with us. grand silence is proclaimed after our daily theological reflection, however the teens boycott and talk until around midnight when we were forced to return to our respective dorms.
Thursday, July 22- GRAND SILENCE DEMANDED UNTIL NOON. yeah, that was hard. then lunch, then shopping in this outdoor market thing in Sautillo. i bought aviators for $2, moracas, and cassanetts. party in the mission compound. we had a big dinner and then this mariaches came and sang for us, and then we had some pinyata action... it was awesome. late night for the teens...
Friday, July 23- early wakeup due to elders banging suitcases down the stairs. some bus action. oh, then our bus' air conditioning broke and the 180 degree weather was really SUCKING. then there was the bus that caught on fire.... yeah, that was fun. then we had to go through customs at the border. we had to get off the bus, take all the luggage off, x-ray all of it, and they checked and x-rayed the bus. then we got back on the boiling bus, and drove until we got to a place we could stop for lunch. the wheels on the bus go round and round... we arrive at the hampton inn in san antonio and realize that we all heart air conditioning, beds, consistantly-working toilets... wow. then we went to the mall to hang out and have dinner. THEN, there was a party until the wee hours of the morning (or until our adult supervisor said it was time to go to bed....) in elizabeth and my room. it ROCKED!
Saturday, July 24- the bus ride home where elizabeth and i annoyed cody a WHOLE lot, sent notes to people, and we watched ben hur. DON'T WATCH BEN-HUR. we also watched Master and Comander. gooood stuff. then, before we knew it, we were home. tear, tear. later that night we had a little teen renunion at Fridays. then off to puccino's, then we hung out in the parking lot and checked out fernando, cody, melissa, and terrie's cars.... we're cool, i promise.
p.s. that was really long. hope you made it through.

georgia on my mind
so, last wednesday i set off (alone may i add) to see meg in athens, geogia. that night we went to go see "Kill Bill Vol. 2" in Georgia Theater (where John Mayer's "No Such Thing" music video was filmed). then i went out downtown with meg. over the next few days meg and i chilled in athens, went shopping in atlanta, slept late, ate ice cream, and tried to go swimming. then on sunday morning my dad flew into atlanta so meg and i went to pick him up and then do some touristy stuff in atlanta. then we drove up to clayton, georgia. we checked into a "Howard Johnson" hotel and then set off for the Setoulah Mountain in The Highlands (north carolina). we climbed that baby, then it started raining on the way down, so that was a party. then the next day we set off for our white water rafting outpost on the Chattooga. meg, my dad and i set off on the section 3 part of the white water rafting trip with our guide Josh (who my dad swore was Keanu Reeves). yeah, so i got some battle wounds from rafting/swimming down some pretty harsh rapids (a.k.a. Bulls Loose). then, there was the WONDERFUL 8-hour-long ride home with my dad... yeah.

my soul mate
if you thought i was cool, i'm nothing compared to napoleon dynamite... he is some kind of rockin'! so, last night i went to go see a (get this) FREE showing of napoleon dynamite at the hollywood 9 theater in kenner. now, as if this wasn't the coolest thing that ever happened already, they have me a free t-shirt with napoleon dynamite on it!! i'm pumped. quick rundown of the movie: a few days in the life of a geek who can dance like nobody's business. when i got home from the movie and coffee after, i decided to practice my moves, but alas, i didn't compare to ANYTHING like napoleon... GOSH! why do i suck??
in other news, i've been cooking up a STORM! here's the 411 of what i've been whippin' up lately: stuffed bell peppers, quesidillas, calzones, chocolate zucchini bread, key lime ice cream, pasta with three pepper tomato sauce, and salad with curried chicken. wow, how much do i rock?? A LOT!
well, i think i'm going to finish reading the fourth harry potter book. oh yeah, and i leave for atlanta to visit meg and then go white-water rafting with my dad when he comes up on the 7th (wednesday). i wonder if i'll need disposable underwear, i see that my dad's purchased quite a few lately... i wonder about him.
